ALICIA KEYS TO BE A DISNEY PRINCESS?

Disney's Annual Shareholders' Meeting happened last week and Disney unveiled some new work from their new, upcoming 2D feature The Frog Princess. I have posted two pictures here of some character designs for the lead character of Princess Maddy that were projected on a big screen as Randy Newman played and song on the piano.

As you can see, Maddy will be Disney's first black princess. Mandy is a young southern girl living in New Orleans in the Roarin' 20s. I don't quite know how the whole 'princess' thing will fit in, but I guess time will tell.

Alicia Keys has been auditioned for the role of Maddy and rumour has it she has been called back for a second interview. Keys has never done any voice work before to my knowledge. I hope that she turns out to be a good fit. I like her singing voice and since Frog Princess is a musical set in the 20s so I think Keys is a good fit.

She looks pretty... I hope the animation on her is super good. It's always so disappointing to have a beautiful character design and then have the animation totally slaughter it. But it is Disney, so my hopes are high. Her body type isn't really a typical Disney princess body type. It's more like the girls on Batman... the more graphic, angular style.

New Orleans in the 20's?? Hmmm...not exactly how I pictured a remake of The Frog Prince, but leave it to Disney to put a twist on things.

I didn't even realize that Disney had never had an African-American princess until you mentioned this would be the first. Good call on their part...get some diversity in there...

I dont understand how she can be a princess from 1920. But other than that, it has potential (aside from the Pixarization of Disney via Newman).

i think its about time disney brings a little diversity into animation. cinderella stories dont just happen to blonde hair blue eyed girls, but to black girls. disney should also bring interracial couples onto the screen. there is nothing wrong with seeing a white man and a black girl live happily ever after together.

Whoa. I thought Disney swore off 2D in favor of 3D. People over there wake up again?
