THE CHIPMUNKS HAVE LANDED!

In a previous post I mentioned an Alvin and the Chipmunks live action movie. Well, feast your eyes on this:

Not only is this movie actually being made, but it is due out December 14!! With this rush to get the film out along with the ugly designs of these classic characters, my hopes are not high at all.

The main thing that bugged me at first was the hiphop style they seem to be sporting. Fans of the original series, the Alvin Show, and the 80s comeback, Alvin and the Chipmunks, will remember the Chipmunks in a band. Will these Chipmunks be in a band? Probably not. The Chipmunks of the past have always sung popular music. In the 60s the popular style was Beatles-style rock and in the 80s it was what is now known as classic rock. But what is the most popular style of music today? Hiphop. So now that I think about it I realize that it is appropriate for Alvin, Simon and Theodore to be all thug and bling. But that doesn't mean i have to be happy about it.

I want your opinion. There have been some pretty awful cartoon-to-live-action movies over the years. What is your favourite live-action remake? What is the worst? leave me a comment with your opinion.

Here are some of the ones that I remember to help you out:

TURTLE BOX OFFICE POWER

This past weekend saw the opening of five new movies, including The Hills Have Eyes 2 and Reign Over Me, but it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that took the box office this weekend beating out two-week champion 300.

I have not seen this movie yet but I'm glad to see that the Turtles have not lost their touch. Eighties children fell in love with the old cartoon and the popularity lasted through the mid-nineties with ten seasons of cartoons and three live action feature films.

The franchise looked like it may be in trouble in in late nineties with a terrible, live-action version of the show that was supposed to be a continuation of the movies but ended up being garbage. But the new Turtles show that came out a few years ago showed that the Turtles could still be popular. Hopefully this movie will solidify the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise for a long time coming.

I plan to see this movie on Easter weekend so I'll try to get a review of it up in the few days following.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES PICTURES

Kino-govno.com has posted over 150 stills from the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie on their webpage. The pics pretty much give away the story so if you don't want spoilers then don't go to this site!

I really liked the design and the animation of the Turtles from the teaser trailer but seeing the humans' designs has left me a little underwhelmed. I was hoping forsomething a little more human and less cartoony but I guess this follows the style of other Nickelodeon CG features like Barnyard and Jimmy Neutron.

Also, some of the voice cast has been released: Chris Evans (Fantastic Four as Casey Jones, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as April O'Neil, Kevin Smith (Clerks) as Greasy Chef, Patrick Stewart (X-Men) as Max Winters,Ziyi Zhang (Memoirs of a Geisha) as Karai, and voice actor veteran Mako, who died shortly after completing his work on this picture, as Master Splinter.

The voices of the Turtles have not been released but rumour has it that Futurama star Billy West will lend his voice to one.
